Retro Toys from Our Generation: Back to the Fun that the 'X-Generation' Enjoyed!
My generation, the 'X-Generation' (b. 1965 -1980), also known as 'Xers', who grew up in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, are now the parent generation that feel nostalgic for the toys from our youth. Many parents now seek these toys for our children to experience and enjoy the same level of fun and happiness that we did in our childhood.
A recent MSN Money article from October 9, 2014 "Child of the 80's, we found your
Christmas List"discusses how 1980's popular toys are being brought back for this
holiday season due to popular demand and are 'making hot holiday toy
lists' according to MSN Money. In addition 'Compared with a new
toy....companies already have the equipment and specs to manufacture the
toy, and strategies to promote it.'
My Toy Choices:
Here are my choices for fun and educational toys from my generation. These toys kept us interested and entertained for hours! I find that many of these toys have a certain charm that brings about a warm feeling of happiness that I experienced as a child. I hope that my NetworkforMoms.org friends will find these toys as fun and charming as I did, especially the ones that involved playtime with my parents!
Just as a reminder, retro toys were made according to old safety standards, that is why parents must always check the toys first for potential choking hazards, sharp edges, etc. to prevent accidents.
For my list of modern toys for babies and children from age 1 to age 6, here is the link: 'Toys for Babies and Children’.
